EBEC Sofia is a part of biggest engineering competition in Europe – EBEC (European BEST Engineering Competition). Its aim is to give students a chance to show their knowledge and creativity and the best to move on.

European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC) is a 3 level, team-based competition, on 2 categories – Team Design and Case Study.

Team Design:  The category “Team Design” represents the solving of a technical problem in within the time frame of several hours. The end result of the competitions is a device that has to fulfill a set of required actions needed to solve the problem (otherwise said, to build a machine designed to carry objects; build a ship; airplane; crane; something which has the capability to fulfill the given task). Winners are defined based on criteria depending on the given task. At the end of the working day the device’s capabilities are demonstrated. The organizers who are in charge of giving materials, instruments and needed explanations to the participants.

Case Study: The category “Case Study” (more known as CS) represents analyzing and solving cases, which don’t include the building of assembling of given materials, but is more about using the given information about the development of hypothetical solutions. The team will have to find a solution to the case within the frame of several hours. Every team makes a presentation about the solution that they came up to. The participants can apply for both categories.

Teams are composed of 4 students from technology fields, regardless of status of their degree, and tasks they’re solving are provided by BEST and company partners. The team which proves to be the most efficient, creative and successful solution at the end of competition finale is granted by “BEST Engineers of Europe” title.

EBEC project begins every year by the first Local round of EBEC that is organized in Europe, followed by other Local rounds of EBEC as well as National/Regional rounds of EBEC and reaches it’s end in the Final Round of EBEC – event that is organised in the beginning of August. The winning teams from Local rounds progress to National/regional rounds and the winning teams from national and regional rounds are competing in Final round of EBEC.
