What events does BEST organize?
The biggest annual event is BEST Engineering Week which takes place every spring. In 2015 it was organized for the 5th consecutive year and it gathered more than 150 students, which took part in the competitions.
What is BEST Engineering Week?
BEST Engineering Week is a series of engineering competitions that happen over the course of a week, where students of all universities can contact company representatives, giving them the opportunity for career development in an informal environment. The can show their knowledge and skills in practice by participating in the development of a practical project or the solving of a case study.
Who can participate?
Students from all technical and engineering fields from all universities can take part in the competition by applying in advance. Only the approved candidates take part in the competition.
BEST Engineering Week Regulation
In every one of the competitions 12 students can take part, separated into different teams. Every team competes during only 1 of the working days. The competitions are held in two categories:
Team Design: The category “Team Design” represents the solving of a technical problem in within the time frame of several hours. The end result of the competitions is a device that has to fulfill a set of required actions needed to solve the problem (otherwise said, to build a machine designed to carry objects; build a ship; airplane; crane; something which has the capability to fulfill the given task). Winners are defined based on criteria depending on the given task. At the end of the working day the device’s capabilities are demonstrated. The organizers who are in charge of giving materials,
instruments and needed explanations to the participants.
Case Study: The category “Case Study” (more known as CS) represents analyzing and solving cases, which don’t include the building of assembling of given materials, but is more about using the given information about the development of hypothetical solutions. The team will have to find a solution to the case within the frame of several hours. Every team makes a presentation about the solution that they came up to. The participants can apply for both categories.
After a whole week of competitions comes the awarding ceremony for the winners and of course an informal cocktail “Companies’ Night” between students and company representatives.
